April and Rashan had a limited budget
Quite a challenge having to transform a kitchen into a modern functional space
I started with their cabinets, kept the frames and had them restain them a rich color
I had the doors replaced with these modern aluminum frames with frosted panels - Rock'in!

We save a ton on the granite countertops - tiles! Thick edges make this look high end!

Flooring was soooooo easy to install and looks amazing! No glue, no nails, just lay and stick!

To add interest on a long blank wall and to open the space up I went with stainless steel panels and floating shelves
Panels can be bought at any home improvement store and the shelving bought at the container store.
Placed a stainless micro on the shelf instead of a cabinet/micro - over done!
Window treatments are actually placemats! No sew! (I hate sewing.....)
Styling for the shoot, kept it simple and clean.
Wanted a fun centerpiece, made this myself and I love layering plates and napkins - texture and depth!
Hope you enjoyed the makeover!

I Hate My Kitchen
- Of Mice and Mold Design Concept -
Josh and Carly wanted a kitchen that was sophisticated and high end with out the high end cost!
First I had them open the space by removing the large space hogging pantry closet- opening the family room to the kitchen.
Next, the kitchen cabinets had to go, we replaced them with unfinished cabinets and saved a ton with Josh and Carly staining the cabinets themselves!
Stain color really defines a style - the homeowners wanted a modern updated look so we went with a dark stain with a simple shaker style cabinet.
The best part of the kitchen - is the backsplash! This really elevated the kitchen bringing it to a entirely different level - a high-end level!
Norstone rock panels are so easy to install and what I love about them - no grout!!!!

white quartz - it literally sparkles - beautiful!
To keep the space light and bright we went with a white quartz countertop that looks like a terrazzo.
Different colored specks thru out the quartz that brought out the color of the dark cabinets yet complimented the backsplash.
Wall color we went with a soft blue that is absolutely beautiful against the dark cabinets.
For curtains I wanted a graphic modern print it makes a statement but doesn't over power the room.
Styling for the last shot is always fun but yet a challenge. Finding the right pieces that don't interfere with the design of the room.
Keep in mind colors that compliment the design and don't go over the top with too many accessories.
A gorgeous high end kitchen with the fraction of a high end budget!
Hope you like the makeover.

I Hate My Kitchen
Design Plan
Meghan's owns a beautiful 1930's home and has done an amazing job remodeling and updating.
With this new kitchen makeover, I wanted to make sure we kept within the integrity of the home - yet giving it an updated fresh style.
Her cabinets were in great condition, they just needed more style!
We kept the cabinets and I had a subtle diagonal design added to a few wall cabinet doors. So subtle you almost miss them at first glance.
Meghan's kitchen has wonderful high ceilings, I wanted to draw the eye upward so I had antiqued glass panels installed.
To draw attention to the height of the ceilings, I had the inside cabinets painted a bright color. Now your eye is drawn upward to take in the high ceilings.
The flooring - this was fun! We decided to go with classic black and yellow squares laid on the diagonal.
Easy to install, no glue, no nails, just click into place!

It fits with the 1930's classic vibe with a updated fresh design.
Countertops - you think concrete would be too modern but the dark earthy color goes with the floors and looks like is has been there for years.
Adding a bright painted island and lighter concrete countertops gave this room some attitude!
Adding an apron front sink and small drawer dishwasher makes this kitchen highly functional with great style!
Styling Meghan's kitchen, I kept it simple and fresh. Touches of silver and small pops of color keeps this kitchen vintage yet fresh and stylish!
